1911 - 21st Anniversary of the Company

George Spicer, a great supporter of the Enfield Companies, passes away.

12th April
|
The Company receives a letter from Sir William A Smith congratulating them on their 21st anniversary, and apologising for not being able to attend the Display.

|
The Company wins the Daily Telegraph Shield in the Royal Albert Hall. Result: 1st - 3rd Enfield (497), 2nd - 21st London (494).

24th May
|
On Empire Day, the 3rd Enfield hold their annual inspection in the Drill hall. The Company celebrates its 21st anniversary. Mr Norris Toms, the founder of the Company, was present. Captain Plowman was presented with a gold watch and a roll top desk as a token of recognition for his hard work for the Company. The Company was given a billiard table for the event.

The Company wins the Battalion Drill competition.

|
The Company are runners-up in the Battalion Gymnastics competition.

|
The Daily Telegraph Shield competition results (no Royal Albert Hall Display is held): 1st - 94th London, 2nd - 3rd Enfield (504 1/2), 3rd - 1st South Essex (475 1/2).

20th May
|
Many Boys enlist in the armed forces, about 600 ex-members of the Enfield Battalion are now on active service. 120 ex-members of the 3rd are on active service. The Company still does cricket, swimming, shooting, and signalling. In the winter it does gymnastics, football, drill, Bugle Band and musketry.

26th May
|
The Whit Monday Inspection and Sports takes place.
|
|
|
This is a First World War service award presented to Corporal Ron Sleath in 1915. This was in recognition for the service he gave to the community during the First World War, usually over a hundred hours.

|
A combined Bible Class takes place. Present are the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 7th Enfield Companies. It ss held at the Southbury Road School. 3rd Enfield Captain T R Plowman, also Battalion President, occupies the chair, supported by Mr H S Hardman.

The Battalion Colours competition takes place.

The Rev Ebenezer Rees becomes the Chaplain.

31st March
|
Mr Lionel Robert Plowman marries Nella Willaims at Christ Church. Mr Thomas Room Plowman acted as best man.

News is received of Old Boys serving in Egypt; Sgt A Martin (Dublin Fusiliers) met George Roebuck, Alfred Nash and William Simons.

|
British Hall, Chase Side: Captain R S Peacock presents the Company with the Daily Telegraph Shield again. Eight Boys who died in the War are remembered. Result: 1st - 3rd Enfield (522 1/2), 2nd - 94th London (521), 3rd - 62nd London (479 1/2).

The Company provides the escorts for the King's Colours and Brigade Colours at the Empire Day celebration.

The Boys' Brigade collects waste paper on behalf of the Prince of Wales National Relief Fund.

|
The Company wins the Founder's Cup for Gymnastics and the Colours competition. In the latter they beat the 1st Enfield - 363 points to 316 points.

3rd May
|
Annual Company Display: T R Plowman acts as Inspecting Officer at the display. He was then a 2nd Lieutenant in the London Regiment.

The annual Athletic Sports at Foy's Field, Baker Street takes place.

|
Lieutenant T R Plowman is wounded in his left arm and knee. He is transported to a hospital in Manchester. Meanwhile, Mr A L Winsley becomes Captain of the Company.

|
Enfield Air Raid Buglers: The Boys' Brigade sound the all clear on air raid nights by the Germans. Dr R L Ridge fights in the District Council for the Brigade to have a football and cricket pitch in Foy's Field.

1st April
|
The 3rd Enfield is shown in the BB Gazette, as part of the Bugle Team with the 1st Enfield who formed the air raid buglers sounding the all-clear from the Zeppelins during World War I. The Officer shown is Dr Leslie Ridge.

|
The Whit Monday Inspection and Display at the Town Park takes place, with Lieutenant T R Plowman as the Inspecting Officer, after recovering from his injuries the previous winter in France. 700 Old Boys of the Battalion were on active service at that time, of which 75 had fallen.

The Company Display is held at the British hall, Chase Side. The inspecting Officer is Major P W Leggatt. The 3rd Enfield were second to the 83rd London by 11 1/2 points in the final of the Daily Telegraph Shield.

|
Mr T R Plowman takes over the Captaincy of the 3rd Enfield again.

Dr R L Ridge writes to suggest that bugles could be presented to those who acted as all clear air raid Buglers in the Great War.

8th May
|
The 3rd Enfield win the Daily Telegraph Shield for the seventh time at the Royal Albert Hall Display, seen by HRH Prince Arthur of Connaught. Flash light photos of the 3rd were taken. Except 1908, until this point the 3rd Enfield have been in every final of the Daily Telegraph Shield competition. Result: 1st - 3rd Enfield (446), 2nd - 83rd London (436).

The Company also win the 2nd XI Football Trophy.

10th June
|
Whit Monday Sports, Enfield Town Park: The 1st and 3rd Enfield Bugle Bands take part.
Above is a picture taken in Enfield Town Park in June 1919. It shows the presentation of the bugles to the all clear Buglers of the First World War. They provided calls to the residents of Enfield for the airship raids over Enfield by the Germans. Enfield was a particular target due to the Enfield Small-arms factory which produced the famous Lee-Enfield 303 rifles.
The all clear Buglers were made up of members of the 1st and 3rd Enfield Companies. The chairman of the District Council, Mr Spencer-Hill MA JP, is the man presenting the bugles as a token of appreciation to the Boys for their service during the War.

Battalion Camp starts again with a camp at Whitstable, costing 25s per Boy. The Company wins the Battalion Camp Trophy.

The Company wins the Battalion Swimming competition.
