Currently there are three different groups running as part of the weekend:
King Jehoshaphat’s Camel (KJC) are the Boys’ Brigade’s central worship group, and specialise in music and drama, and they also play at events all around the country including Firm Foundations.
The International Team (ITeam) help to promote understanding of international work undertaken by the BB around the country, and also come up with a number of projects involving Boys’ Brigade organisations around the world.
The Web Support Team (WST) are a group of people that help to maintain the Boys’ Brigade’s national websites (the main site, the Forums, Firm Foundations website etc.) and help people with queries relating to them.
It’s probably little surprise which group I decided to join! Yes that’s right, from that weekend I became an official member of the Web Support Team, and headed over to Felden for my first New Horizons. There had been a common misperception of New Horizons that the groups don’t interact with each other and can be a bit cliquey; however I found that to definitely not be the case as everyone was very friendly to each other and the new people. It was a bonus to know quite a few people from various things before, as well!
The weekend allows the three groups to discuss things relating to their area of work (quite what those things are I can’t explain!), as well as the opportunity to get together for worship sessions and free time. While KJC provide the music and most of the worship leading, the other two groups get the opportunity to lead a session each. Someone had decided to put the WST session on Saturday morning, which meant a late night on Friday preparing it!
Regardless of that, it was a thoroughly enjoyable weekend and it was great to meet new and old friends and also get involved a little bit more in the national work of the Boys’ Brigade - I definitely hope to be back for many more New Horizons weekends!
