This was also the first year of running a young people’s event, which allowed us to attend some of the main Brigade Council events as well as some things specifically for the young people. One of the first things to do after finding our way to the place we were staying was to go along to the opening ceremony on Friday evening, which took place in the new Welsh Assembly building (the whole weekend was centred around Cardiff Bay). There was also a bowling social for the young people’s group, as well as a trip to Pizza Hut. A lot of the night was then spent watching TV in the place we were staying (right opposite the Assembly), and playing the Welsh version of Monopoly!
The main thing to do on Saturday was to attend the main meeting of Brigade Council, which featured reports on a lot of the things that the BB had been doing over the last year, and debates on the motions brought to Council (basically, one on allowing girls into the BB officially, and one on allowing the continued use of the old uniform). In short, both were defeated, and a long meeting perhaps isn’t the most interesting thing to write a report about! The evening had separate events for the main and young people’s groups, and after another late night (of no sleep!), Sunday was the end of the weekend and time to head back to Enfield.
