This month I have based on news from Scotland
The
15th Coatbridge Company in North Lanarkshire are selling 'Sure and Steadfast'
Wristbands Nationwide.
The forward thinking Company Captain, Billy Barclay, realised the possibility of
providing an excellent advertising opportunity for the
BB and at
the same time giving members of the organisation something to wear which made a
positive statement to others.
They are on sale for Boys and kids at £1.50 and for adults at £2.
Full details are available on the 15th's website at
http://15coatbridge.boys-brigade.org.uk/page9.html
but don't hang about as
they are going FAST....
BBC
Radio Scotland had an excellent programme about the BB in their Sunday morning
series - People's History.
The BB's Billy Kay talked to men and boys from Dundee to Malawi whose lives were
influenced by their experiences with the
Boy's Brigade. Billy examined its origins in Glasgow in 1883 and discovered why it is still relevant in today's more secular society.
The Strathkelvin Battalion was honoured to have a special guest speaker at their AGM. John Neil OBE, the new Brigade President
who was welcomed by the Battalion President Bert Cooke is no stranger to the Battalion as he used to be the Area Representative
to
Strathkelvin .
John Neil gave a very interesting talk on the special and exciting engagements
which he has had the pleasure to undertake as
Brigade President including the Firm Foundations event at Felden Lodge and he is looking forward to visiting the equivalent Scottish
event
'Crossover' and also to visiting Northern Ireland.
John had always wanted a 1st Glasgow Company Tie which he had always admired,
but unfortunately was never able to have one as
they were only for those who had been members of the first.
He visited the 'first' year after year and tried his luck to obtain a tie, but
with no success. He is now the proud owner of the 1st Glasgow
Company
Tie as he was made an honorary Officer in the first and now qualifies.
John most of all looks forward to presenting young men with their Queen's Badge
and in doing so, to challenge them to carry on the
work of the Brigade by training to become Officers. The future of the Boys' Brigade depends on these young men.
